Amontaine in a scene from Waiting For Billie Holiday

The Origin of The Name

The aura continues to be controversial subject. It is a complex principle to define. In simple terms, it can be described as a vibration surrounding every material object. Any conduit for a flow of energy is said to have an aura around it. For those who are able to see it, it can appear as a shaft of colored light emanating most prominently around the head in a human.

Whether you believe in it or not is decidedly beside the point. The point is this! I know a gentleman who claims to be able to see auras with his naked eye. He came to see my one-woman show, and told me that every time I changed characters in the show, the color of my aura changed, which he found to be highly unusual. In his experience, people's auras do not usually change colors so suddenly. Jokingly he remarked that from now on he was going to call me Ten Auras.

I immediately adopted the name, first for its spiritual and philosophical implications. Yet it also seems appropriate as a way of thinking about the manifold artistic expressions that are a part of this exploration. Multiple expressions emanating from a single form. I see this as a powerful affirmation for my burgeoning venture.

The Mission

Ten Auras’ mission is to bring unique, thought-provoking and culturally hip theatrical productions and publications to people seeking entertainment and education that dares to veer from the beaten path. We seek to provide an opportunity for creative people (actors, directors, choreographers, writers, musicians, etc.) to bring their visions, hearts and souls to the table in an open and energetic exchange.
